End-to-End Storage Transformations for Winnipeg Homeowners

Lifestyles change. Your storage should too.

Your home was built for a way of life that's already moved on. The pantry was sized before the espresso machine. The closet was framed before two-career mornings. The mudroom never accounted for the gear, the dog, or the kids. We re-store your home — redesigning rooms, moving walls, reframing closets, relighting, and building bespoke millwork — so that storage finally matches the way you actually live.

Why Restore

Storage built around your life. Not your home's old layout.

Wire shelving doesn't change a thing. Cabinetry alone — even expensive custom cabinetry — only adapts to the rooms you already have. We do the only thing that actually matches storage to modern life: we re-store the rooms themselves. Walls, framing, lighting, mechanical, drywall, flooring, and bespoke millwork — handled end-to-end, by one firm.

01

End-to-end re-storage

Designer, engineer, permits, framer, electrician, plumber, drywaller, painter, millworker — one firm, one project manager, one accountable team. Not a cabinet vendor with sub-trades on speed dial.

02

The room itself, re-laid-out

Walls move. Closets relocate. Rooms change size. A pantry pushes into a wasted hallway. A mudroom expands into a forgotten corner. We change where storage lives — not just what's inside it.

03

Designed by a designer

Every project starts with a real designer — measurements, drawings, materials, lighting, hardware, finish schedule. Not a kitchen-store consultant pointing at a stock catalog.

04

Bespoke millwork, not boxes

Built to your appliances, your wardrobe, your gear, your routines. Every dimension and finish tailored. No standardized cabinet sizes. No "close enough." No filler panels hiding the gaps.

05

Engineered & permitted

Stamped drawings, City of Winnipeg permits, full inspections — included. Winnipeg is increasingly enforcing tear-outs of unpermitted work. We protect you from that, every project.

06

Built to outlast you

Heirloom-grade joinery, solid materials, finishes specified to age beautifully. Storage that doesn't sag, doesn't go out of style, and doesn't get torn out in ten years. The opposite of disposable.

The Three Approaches

Most homes get a shelving kit. Some get cabinetry. You deserve a re-storage.

There are three ways to address storage in a home that no longer fits the way you live. Only one of them actually changes the home. Compare side by side.

What's Included Capability The full scope of what changes Approach 1 Wire Shelving
& Closet Kits
Adds shelves. Changes nothing about the house.
Approach 2 Cabinetry Alone IKEA → custom. Adapts to existing layout only. Approach 3 Winnipeg Storage Specialists End-to-end re-storage. The room itself is rebuilt.

Built for decades, not seasons
Wire shelving and closet kits don't change your home — they decorate around its old bones. Cabinetry alone — whether IKEA or fully custom — only adapts to the layout you already have. A re-storage is the only approach that changes the rooms themselves so storage finally matches the way you actually live.
Our End-to-End Scope

One firm. Every trade. Every detail.

This is what makes a re-storage different from a carpentry job, a cabinet install, or a design consult. We handle every link in the chain — coordinated, sequenced, and accountable to one project manager.

Spaces We Transform

The rooms most homes get wrong.

Storage is the part of the home that ages fastest — and that almost no one re-engineers. A custom transformation of even one of these rooms changes how the entire house feels.

Corner Pantries

Reorganized around your appliances, your morning, your real groceries. Awkward corners reclaimed.

Walk-in Closets

Built around your wardrobe — not a stock 24-inch hanging rod. Every shelf, drawer, and shoe niche bespoke.

Storage Closets

From dead wasted volume to useful, organized space. The forgotten closet that finally works for the household.

Laundry Rooms

Folding counters, drying rods, hampers, ironing storage — designed around the way laundry actually moves through your week.

Mudrooms

Boots, bags, gear, mail — sequenced for how the family actually enters the house. Built-in benches, hooks, and hidden storage.

Built-Ins & Millwork

Wall-to-wall shelving, banquette seating, window seats, custom display. Anything millwork can solve, we can build.

Pantries, closets, laundry rooms, mudrooms — these aren't "little projects." They're the rooms you touch every single day, and the ones that quietly determine how your home actually feels to live in.

Done once. Done right. Done for the lifetime of the home.

On-Site Protocol

Your home, treated like the asset it is.

This is not a noisy demolition crew tracking through your house. Every project follows our site protocol — a sequenced, contained, professional process that protects the rest of your home while we transform one room.

  1. Floor & surface protection

Adjacent floors, walls, and finishes are masked and protected before the first tool touches the site.

  2. Contained dust zones

Plastic barriers, zipper doors, and HEPA-grade air scrubbers keep demolition dust isolated to the work area.

  3. Daily cleanup

The site is left tidy at the end of every day. No piles of debris growing in the corner of your home.

  4. Sequenced phasing

Loud, dusty, and disruptive work is sequenced into the shortest possible window — so daily life keeps moving.

  5. Total debris removal

Every cabinet, every offcut, every bag of dust — hauled away by us. We leave nothing behind for you to deal with.

  6. Single point of contact

One project manager who answers your call, runs every trade, and owns the schedule from day one to walk-through.

Quietly professional. Visibly different.

A renovation should not turn the rest of your home into a construction site. If you've ever watched dust travel two floors away from a kitchen demo, you know exactly what we mean.

Our crews are trained to a higher site standard because our clients expect a higher site standard. Boots come off. Tools get cleaned. Drop sheets stay laid. The home is treated as the home — not as a worksite that happens to have furniture in it.

What You're Paying For

We are not the cheapest. That is the point.

You will get cheaper quotes elsewhere. They will be for a different scope of work — and for a different standard of finish. Here is what is included, on every project, when you hire us.

— I —

A real designer, on every project

Concept drawings, materials selection, hardware, lighting, finish specifications. The designer stays involved through completion.

— II —

Custom-built millwork

Fabricated to your measurements, your appliances, your wardrobe. Not assembled from a catalog. Not approximated to fit.

— III —

Stamped engineering & full permits

Every wall move, every load-bearing change, every mechanical relocation — engineered, drawn, and permitted by the City of Winnipeg.

— IV —

Every trade, coordinated

Framers, electricians, plumbers, drywallers, painters, flooring, finish carpenters — under one project manager. You speak to one person.

— V —

Full structural reframing

Walls moved, openings reframed, mechanical relocated, drywall and flooring repaired and refinished. The room itself, redone.

— VI —

White-glove site protocol

Surface protection, contained dust zones, daily cleanup, total debris removal. Quiet, sequenced, respectful of the home.

— VII —

Heirloom-grade finish

Materials and joinery chosen to age beautifully and last decades. The opposite of disposable storage. Built to outlast you.

— VIII —

Written workmanship warranty

If something is not right, we come back. Our name is on the work — long after the final walk-through.

“The cheapest quote you receive is for a different project than the one we're proposing. You'll see exactly why on the first day of design.

Our End-to-End Process

One firm. One designer. Every step.

From the first design conversation to the final coat of paint, every step below is performed or coordinated by our team. You never chase a sub-trade. You never call the city. You never coordinate the schedule.

— I —

Design Consultation

An on-site conversation about how you live, what isn't working, and what the space could become.

— II —

Measurement & Assessment

Full measurements, structural and mechanical assessment, and identification of every constraint before design begins.

— III —

Design Development

Concept drawings, plan and elevation views, materials and finish board. Refined with you until it's exactly right.

— IV —

Structural Engineering

A licensed engineer stamps every drawing — wall moves, openings, structural changes — for permit submission.

— V —

City Permits

We pull every required City of Winnipeg permit and file the paperwork on your behalf.

— VI —

Demolition & Reframing

Contained, sequenced demolition. Walls moved, openings reframed, mechanical relocated. The room becomes the right shape.

— VII —

Drywall & Surfaces

New drywall, vapour barrier, flooring repair, paint preparation. The room is re-finished as if it always looked this way.

— VIII —

Custom Millwork Fabrication

Every cabinet, drawer, shelf, and panel is built to your measurements — not pulled from a stock catalog.

— IX —

Installation & Finishing

Millwork installed, hardware fitted, paint completed, finish details perfected. Inspections passed and signed off.

Gesell Built StandardThree generations of Winnipeg trade
Our Group

Part of a quietly different group of builders.

GESELL BUILT
Group of Companies
From the family of words that mean to rebuild, to remake, to bring forward. Winnipeg Storage Specialists is the specialist firm in the Gesell Built group of companies that re-stores homes — redoing the storage itself, room by room, so the way you live is finally reflected in the way your home is built. Alongside our sister practice in egress windows and basement construction.

Three generations of trades, rebuilt for a better client experience.

Our founder has been on job sites since he was two — raised in the trades alongside three generations of his family in millwork, framing, and finishing. By his twenties he'd built one of Winnipeg's best-known millwork companies, and eventually sold it.

Then came years away — living in British Columbia and Alberta, working in other industries. He watched how those businesses organized projects and ran client experience: predictable schedules, clear communication, a process that made clients feel taken care of from the first call to the final hand-off.

He came back to Winnipeg with one conviction: custom residential construction does not have to come with chaos. Homeowners deserve the same organized, professional experience that other industries take for granted — applied to the most personal renovations of all.

That is the standard the Gesell Built group was founded on. And it is the standard you receive every time Winnipeg Storage Specialists pulls into your driveway.

Common Questions

Everything you wanted to ask before calling.

Why are you so much more expensive than the cabinet store down the road?
Because we are not selling cabinets. We are redesigning the room itself, custom-building millwork to fit your life, handling engineering, permits, inspections, every trade, debris removal, and finish work — all under one firm. A cabinet store sells you a kit and an installer. We deliver a transformed room, end to end. The dollar amounts aren't comparable because the projects aren't comparable.
Do I really need a permit for a pantry or closet?
If walls move, framing changes, mechanical relocates, or load-bearing structure is touched — yes, you need a permit, an engineered drawing, and a City of Winnipeg inspection. Anything less is a future problem. Winnipeg is increasingly enforcing tear-outs of unpermitted work. We never put our clients in that position.
What happens if a contractor skipped the permit on previous work?
It can become an expensive problem at any time — often during a future renovation, a sale, or an insurance claim. The city can require unpermitted work to be opened, re-engineered, and rebuilt. We can usually identify these issues during the initial assessment and quote a remediation alongside the new design.
How long does a custom transformation take?
Design typically takes 3–6 weeks. Permitting adds 2–4 weeks. The on-site build is usually 2–6 weeks depending on scope. You receive a firm schedule before construction begins, and our project manager updates you weekly.
How disruptive is the work to daily life?
Far less than a typical renovation. We protect adjacent surfaces, contain dust zones with HEPA-grade air scrubbers, sequence loud and dusty work into the tightest windows, clean daily, and haul every bit of debris off-site. Most clients tell us they were surprised at how normal the rest of the house remained.
Do you handle every trade or do I need to hire others?
We handle every trade. Designer, engineer, framer, electrician, plumber, drywaller, painter, flooring, finish carpenter, millworker — all coordinated under one project manager. You speak to one person. You sign one contract. You receive one warranty.
What if I only want to transform one space — is that worth it?
Absolutely. Most clients start with one room and add more later. A single transformed pantry or closet often changes how the entire main floor functions — and how the home feels every morning.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes — written workmanship warranty from us, plus the manufacturer warranty on hardware and fixtures. If anything is not right, we come back.
